About Us

Uhambo Foundation is a South African Non- Profit Organisation. Established in 2010, the Uhambo Foundation grew out of the work of Shonaquip to bring about social change for all children with mobility disabilities in South Africa. Uhambo Foundation complements work of Shonaquip and our partners through providing community engagement, interlinked programmes, accessible resources and quality information.

We do this to enable greater equality and social inclusion for children with disabilities.

Uhambo Foundation’s team includes community workers, programme facilitators, and a social work team.

Uhambo USA, Netherlands and UK support the mission of Uhambo Foundation and Shonaquip abroad, seeking to further the impact of Uhambo's successful holistic model, mobilize resources and cultivate business partnerships to support Uhambo's expansion in Africa and eventually other developing countries.

Uhambo Foundation’s vision is to improve equality for children with disabilities through empowerment of parents and caregivers of children and youth with mobility and other disabilities (and their communities), in line with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

Children and their families do not exist in isolation. Inclusion needs to happen at all levels to be sustainable. Uhambo Foundation supports children with disabilities, their families and communities to bring about sustainable inclusion.

To do this, Uhambo works with our network of partners in government, health, rehabilitation, educational, community and other settings.

Uhambo Foundation and Shonaquip are a hybrid social enterprise working together towards an inclusive society for children with mobility and other disabilities.

Uhambo’s role is to ensure that children with mobility disabilities, their parents, families, caregivers and communities receive holistic support to benefit from social inclusion at all levels.

Shonaquip’s role is to ensure that children with mobility disabilities have access to appropriate assistive devices and the wheelchair services essential to promote their health, well-being, safety and participation.

Uhambo Foundation is a shareholder of Shonaquip and receives all profits generated.
